Lakewood Ranch

“Largest Green-certified Community in the United States”

Joey Phoenix Photography Designated as the largest green certified community in the United States, Lakewood Ranch is a unique residential experiment that has been met with nothing but success. Located in southeastern Manatee County on Florida’s Gulf Coast, Lakewood Ranch is home to a growing population of 20,000 residents, and is without doubt one of southwestern Florida’s most up and coming communities. The region is also comprised of a number of shopping districts, world-class restaurants, and state-of-the-art athletics complexes.

    Lakewood Ranch History

The existence of Lakewood Ranch owes nothing to chance. The 8,500 acre (and growing) region was hand selected to become one the Sunshine State’s most ambitious master planning projects in the early 1990s. When the land, originally owned by the Uihlein family of Milwaukee, became available for development, various players – including Mary Fran Carroll – stepped in to keep the region from becoming just another landfill. Thanks to their efforts, Lakewood Ranch is now home to 9 distinct villages, each with their own assets and charm.
